How to Enable Siri on iPhone and iPad
While you might like getting down to Daft Punk on a Saturday night, your mate’s drunken guilty pleasure could very well be Justin Bieber, and we’re all familiar with the playlist conflict that will ensue, so why settle for less than a tailored music solution?
That’s where Apple Music comes in.
If you haven’t had a chance to explore Apple’s newest music venture, we strongly recommend that you do. You can delve as deep or swim as shallow as you like with this app, but either way, it’s a great way to ensure you’re listening to your favourite kinds of music that you’re familiar with, and not so familiar with, all the time.
The biggest difference from other streaming services? Human curation. Apple Music is programmed and catered to your tastes by real, living people.
#1 It’s Curated For You
This is where the discovering happens. Apple’s music editors offer up playlists and suggested albums based on the music you’re liking and listening to. The best part? It’s updated several times a day so by pulling down to refresh, you’re never listening to a broken record.
Tapping the heart symbol anytime on Apple Music will make the For You page even better by sending Apple suggestions of what you’re digging, if you don’t like their suggestions, you can also let them know by holding down the playlist and tapping ‘I Don’t Like This Suggestion’.
#2 You Can Listen To Beats 1 Radio
Like other music streaming services, Apple Music features a ‘radio’ option. However, Apple’s Beats 1 live station is dedicated entirely to music, and music culture and broadcasts live to over 100 countries.
Instead of spitting out the same cycle of songs, Beats 1 enlists influential DJs Zane Lowe in LA, Ebro Darden in NYC and Julie Adenuga in London, to host their 24-hour shows. It also features exclusive interviews and guests hosts, e.g. last week Beats 1 was hosted by the Haim sisters. It’s more of an authentic ‘radio’ experience, which means more to discover.
#3 It’s Easy To Find New Music
Finding new tunes doesn’t have to be so hard. In ‘New’, Apple Music offers featured albums, videos and notable radio shows handpicked by Apple’s music experts, as well as Hot Tracks and playlists for any mood or genre. The deeper you go, the more you can find.
#4 You Can Connect With Your Favourite Artists
If you’ve ever wanted to rub shoulders with your favourite artist, Apple Music’s ‘Connect’ is the best place to do it. In this section, artists can post candid photos, videos, soundbites and exclusive content, and the best part is – nothing is prohibited or monitored, so you could potentially be the first to hear a new track or see a new video. It’s all about up-to-the-minute music.
#5 You Can Control Your Music Through Siri
Siri is your new DJ when it comes to Apple Music, and she’s one advantage Apple has over other streaming services. If you have the ‘Hey Siri’ voice recognition on your iPhone, you don’t even need to open the Apple Music app. You can ask Siri to tune the radio, play a certain playlist, artist or genre and you can even ask Siri to never play a song again, play more songs like it, or tell her you simply like a song.
But wait, there’s more. You can ask Siri to play songs from a certain era e.g. 90’s hip-hop, ask her to add albums, shuffle your music, play songs next, play cover versions, Shazam a song, and clear queues. It also works with your Apple Watch by asking Siri for a certain playlist.
Apple Music makes finding new tunes and impressing your mates that little bit easier.
