Diabetes Diet and Food Tips
Diabetes requires a special attention and an absolutely different approach in terms of picking correct rations and going for diets, of course. If you have diabetes, you need to be extremely careful with every single detail especially when speaking about diets. Thus, now we are going to speak about the basic tips and nuances that exist when pickingdiabetes dietand daily regimen.
There are two main types of diabetes: insulin-dependent and insulin-independent. Consequently, each of these two types requires a special treatment and a special range of foods and proportions, which will give a chance to regulate the metabolism and to normalize the processes going on in the organism. Some specialists believe that picking the correct diet may help to facilitate the difficulties caused by diabetes or even prevent it.
Thus, the therapeutic nutrition regimen is created by the doctor, who takes care of the patient, and all the individual peculiarities should be taken into account when forming it. If you have diabetes, this doesn’t mean that you are going to eat dull and monotone food for the rest of your life, since you still have a chance to try out some very interesting and delicious dishes, which will secure the diversity and the pleasure of everyday meals. The most important factor is taking all the principles and details into account, for instance ditching the fried hot, salty, and smoked dishes and products, also forgetting about the canned products, mustard, and alcohol.
Of course, it’s also quite natural that the consumption of sugar should also be taken to minimum in this case and in some grave cases sugar is absolutely removed from the daily ration. Still, in case of mild or moderate cases some small proportions of sugar-containing products are allowed, but only with the condition of constant surveillance of glucose in the organism.
According to the recent examinations it has also become known that the excessive proportions of fats also influences the development of diabetes. That’s why it’s essential to control the amount of fats consumed daily just as attentively as that of sugar. The intake of food should be fractioned including 5 meals a day, composed of breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks, having almost equal proportions of calories and carbohydrates.
Diabetes Diet of the First Type
Speaking about the insulin-dependent diabetes, we should first of all note the necessity of proper insulin-therapy the main aim of which should be the correctly picked pharmaceuticals and the therapeutic diet. It’s necessary for taking the fluctuations of glucose in the blood and the risks of complications to the minimum. Thus, only the doctor should make the exact daily regimen of the patient, since this type of diabetes is especially dangerous and risky. In addition, insulin injections are the basic way of treating such diabetes also making this form quite unsafe.
In order to be maximum precise with the calculations, a special system has been developed called the Bread Unit System (BE) according to which one BE equals to 10-12 g. of carbohydrates. This is approximately a slice of bread or an orange of medium size. Thus, all comes to the correct calculations of carbohydrates in every product consumed. In other words, it’s all about how much food should be consumed daily and not what type of food.
There are some essential rules that a person having diabetes should take into account in order to be able to eat normally just like other people. For instance, the daily intake of food should not be more than 7-8 BE, which, if counted by carbohydrates equals to 70-90 g for a meal. Before each meal it’s important to count the consistency of insulin and the amount of BE. Next, this type of diet absolutely excludes the sweet juices like tea with sugar, lemonades, carbonated drinks and other sweet drinks.
Diabetes Diet of the Second Type
Coming to the second type of diabetes diet we can note the basic reason of it being obesity. The main aim of treating the insulin-independent type is regulating the exchange of carbohydrates in the organism.
Thus, it’ again the doctor, who is to form the diet for the patients having this type of diabetes again taking the individual characteristics into account. Factors like age, gender, and physical activity are all taken into account. The loss of weight is another significant aim in this case. For each patient a certain proportion of calories is counted and for a kg of weight 20 calories for women and 25 calories for men are calculated.
Keeping this diet is compulsory always and that’s why it should be formed so that the tastefulness and the pleasant diversity of the dishes are as complete and appealing as possible. At the same time it’s important to limit the consumption of foods with high calories contributing to the increase of insulin in blood. Products with big proportions of cellulose and water are especially recommended.
